Flemenstar to be tested after 'underperforming'

CONNECTIONS of Flemenstar are holding fire on a decision over their star's Cheltenham Festival target until they have established what made the the eight-year-old "underperform" in Saturday's Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown.

Flemenstar was beaten for the first time by Sir Des Champs in the Grade 1 and owner Stephen Curran feels sure that the result was not a true reflection of his horse's ability.

He said: "He didn't carry Andrew Lynch through the race. He was dead and I am mystified as to why. He really underperformed and until we get him checked out tomorrow we will hold fire on deciding what he's going for at Cheltenham.

"He didn't jump well and didn't pick up either. It could of course have just been him having an off day, but until we run some tests we can't know for sure.

"I don't want to take anything away from the winner though. He's a very good horse and I'm delight for the O'Leary's as they are great sports people and deserve horses like him."
